Gustav Barthel was a manufacturer of lamps and stoves in Dresden, Germany. In 1908 he moved to Massachusetts USA, where he collaborated with the Globe Gas Light Company.
After the Second World War Barthel’s company expropriated, but continued to produce some products with “VEB Soldering Dresden Company”.
In 1962 Gustav’s Barthel great-grandson, Volker Kress, returned to the company a large part of the nationalization. Although he new familly’s tradition, never dealt with it.Instead he became Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony.
The blowtorch Barthel converted into a table lamp, but preserve all the elements of the original torch. The cord is made of gray fabric and the lamp is Edison.
